FDH Financial Holdings Limited has unveiled a relief package amounting to K100 million to help government’s efforts in mitigating the impact of Tropical Cyclone Freddy in Blantyre and affected districts in the Southern Region.

In a statement, FDH Financial Holdings Limited group head of marketing and communication Levie Nkunika said as a corporate citizen, they are also concerned with the devastating impact of the cyclone that has killed 99 people as of Monday.

Nkunika: As an institution we are also affected

He said: “Our hearts pour out to the families that have lost their loved ones as well as their homes, especially in Chilobwe Township.

“As an institution, we are also affected as our employees and their families are affected in various ways and we have halted business in our various outlets to protect lives first.”

Nkunika said the financial services group hopes that the package will contribute towards the resource mobilisation by authorities as they respond to the disaster.

He said FDH group will be working with local governments and non-governmental organisations to ensure that the most affected are assisted with speed.

President Lazarus Chakwera yesterday declared a State of Disaster in the Southern Region following the devastating effects of the cyclone, effectively appealing for local and international support for the affected families.

Secretary to the President and Cabinet said in a statement yesterday that the President “has noted with grace concern” the devastation caused by Cyclone Freddy in most districts in the Southern Region.
